Apple Music Windows Smart Playlist No Apple Community
Mar 25, 2024 8:03 PM in response to gabriel.gueringg what worked for me was not using the Apple Music app and switching back to iTunes. iTunes would correctly apply filters when I created the smart playlist which then syncs the playlist down to my phone as well (which is where I primarily listen). Revert to iTunes for Windows. Mar 24, 2024 9:43 PM in response to wolp124 You can create a Smart Playlist that automatically organizes songs into playlists based on criteria you specify. Whenever you add items to your music library that meet the criteria of a Smart Playlist, the Smart Playlist is automatically updated to include them. For example, you could create a Smart Playlist that includes your most highly rated rock songs that were released before 1990 or after 2000. When you add songs to your library that meet the criteria, they’re automatically added to the Smart Playlist.
Smart Playlists you create have this icon next to them. Go to the Apple Music app on your Windows device. Select next to Playlists in the sidebar, then choose New Smart Playlist. Jul 22, 2025 12:53 PM in response to vorticity4 A smart playlist is one where the contents are defined by a set a rules, rather than manually dragging tracks into it. You can right-click on any of your lists that don't show on your device and see if Add to Library is available.
In the Songs view of the library enable the Cloud Status column and sort on the heading. Look for values such as error, ineligible, removed, etc. Anything other than matched, uploaded, purchased, or Apple Music, is likely to be an issue. Jul 22, 2025 11:18 AM in response to vorticity4 Smart Playlists that depend on other playlists are ineligible for iCloud Music Library. Playlists that contain ineligible content are ineligible for iCloud Music Library.
Dec 7, 2025 10:31 PM in response to Dan0ne Switch OFF “iCloud Music Sync,” Restart, Then Switch It Back ON. This forces Apple Music to rebuild the local metadata index, which Smart Playlists rely on. Dec 7, 2025 11:48 PM in response to Dan0ne So actually turns out, the playlist is there, I just cannot see it. If I click the gear icon next to the playlist, it plays music that complies with the smart playlist rules.
For some reason, however, the screen will not load to show the list of music that will be played or the menu items such as shuffle, sort, etc... Appears to be some kind of bug that didn't exist when I created my earlier smart playlists. Mar 24, 2024 9:28 PM in response to ChristianC2011 I came across your post and wanted to let you know that I’ve encountered a similar issue with my Smart Playlists on Apple Music for Windows. It seems like this might be due to a bug within Apple Music itself. I hope there’s a fix on the way soon. In Itunes, I regularly made a Smart Playlist using music I had added to Itunes in the past month. It was easy to do with Smart Playlists, choosing "Date Added" and specifying "is in the range" of the past calendar month.
It worked flawlessly. This doesn't work in Apple Music. I can follow the same steps but it yields an empty list. I can specify "after" June 1, for example, and that works. Does this date range search work for anyone? This thread has been closed by the system or the community team.
