Migration guide from version 2.x to 3.x is available here. APIs compatibility with ESP8266 and Arduino-CORE (Arduino.cc) is explained here. The ESP32 Arduino Core is a powerful development platform that brings the simplicity and accessibility of Arduino programming to Espressif’s ESP32 series of microcontrollers. This integration allows developers to leverage the familiar Arduino environment while taking advantage of the ESP32’s advanced features, including dual-core processing, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and extensive peripheral support.

The ESP32 Arduino Core is an open-source project developed by Espressif Systems that provides Arduino-compatible libraries and tools for programming ESP32 microcontrollers. It extends the Arduino platform to support the ESP32’s unique capabilities while maintaining compatibility with the vast ecosystem of Arduino libraries and sketches. The ESP32 Arduino Core provides comprehensive support for all Espressif mass-production SoCs and unlocks their powerful features: The ESP32 Arduino Core is particularly beneficial for: Before setting up the ESP32 Arduino Core, ensure you have: This guide will show how to install the Arduino-ESP32 support.

We recommend you install the support using your favorite IDE, but other options are available depending on your operating system. To install Arduino-ESP32 support, you can use one of the following options. Users in China might have troubles with connection and download speeds using GitHub. Please use our Jihulab mirror as the repository source: https://jihulab.com/esp-mirror/espressif/arduino-esp32.git This is the way to install Arduino-ESP32 directly from the Arduino IDE.

Here you will find all the relevant information about the project. This documentation is valid for the Arduino Core for ESP32 version 3.3.7 based on ESP-IDF 5.5. This is a work in progress documentation and we will appreciate your help! We are looking for contributors! Β© Copyright 2016 - 2026, Espressif Systems (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Espressif Systems is announcing the new release of the Arduino ESP32 core including support for the ESP32-C6 and ESP32-H2 with the most recent ESP-IDF 5.1

Back in September 2021, Arduino ESP32 Core version 2.0.0 was announced and introduced the support for the ESP32-S2, ESP32-S3 (in a later release) and ESP32-C3. This release was a huge milestone for the community not only because of the new SoCs (System on Chips) support but also because of the new era for the project, including an enormous number... Since the Arduino ESP32 core version 2.0.0, new chips became available, and new features are now needed to keep and improve the developer’s experience and the integration with Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment). To continue with the remarkable success of version 2.0.0, the Arduino ESP32 core team is working hard in cooperation with the community to not stop making history. Now it is time to announce the Arduino ESP32 Core major version 3.0.0 release with new SoC’s support (now including support for ESP32-C6 and ESP32-H2), API improvements and breaking changes. nnounced in 2022, this new SoC from the C-series introduced the Wi-Fi 6 and the 802.15.4.
