If you want to work on your master’s degree with us, then at the latest when you enrol you will need to have a recognised first university degree, for example a bachelor’s degree. You can check whether your degree entitles you to study on a master’s programme in Germany using the Anabin database. Our university offers degree programmes taught in German and programmes taught in English. Depending on the degree programme, there are certain requirements you have to fulfil when it comes to your language proficiency. For degree programmes taught in German, you will need to have a level of German proficiency that corresponds to the “Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang” level 2 (DSH-2) or an equivalent certificate. We only accept the following certificates: Completing a bachelor’s degree taught in German or at a German university is not enough to prove your German proficiency. Our faculty offers courses of study in Physics, Meteorology, Geosciences and Geography. You can study Physics in German or English language. The master’s programmes in Meteorology as well as in Earth System Data Science and Remote Sensing are offered in English.

Our bachelor's degree programs extend over six semesters (three years) and end with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). A Master's degree at our faculty usually extends over four semesters (two years) and concludes with the academic degree Master of Arts (MA). An exception is the M.Sc. Journalism, which is studied with an integrated traineeship over six semesters. At our faculty, you can choose between the subjects social studies/legal education and ethics/philosophy. You can study these in various types of schools with us. In Bachelor’s degree programs, you have the opportunity to take modules from other degree programs in addition to your core subject either in the free elective area or in a fixed elective subject.

Depending on the course of study, this elective window comprises 30 or 60 CP. The Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy offers eight elective courses.
