Over the past several months, Paramount Plus has added over 100 Nickelodeon shows, new and old, to its ever-expanding, rich library of content. The service also features a number of original Nickelodeon movies, such as Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie. Last year, I penned a piece pleading Nickelodeon to add some of its classic shows to a streaming service. Apparently, Nick listened, and responded rather quickly. After 15 years separate from each other, CBS and Viacom merged together for a second time in December of 2019.

As a result of the two media juggernauts teaming up, CBS began overhauling its streaming service in the ensuing months, adding BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Smithsonian and Paramount properties... In March of 2021, CBS-Viacom rebranded CBS All Access as "Paramount Plus", adding a plethora of new content to the streaming service. Now, Nickelodeon has its own version of Disney+. As Americans hunker down in their houses amid the outbreak of COVID-19, there's never been a better time for them to catch up on their favorite childhood shows. It just got harder to watch some of Nickelodeon’s older shows, and it’s going to be even harder soon as even more will be leaving streaming services by 2025.

Paramount+ seems to be making some major changes to its library as fans of Nickelodeon had already noticed earlier this month that some of their biggest classic had been removed from the streaming service. This included some of their earliest original animated projects like Doug and My Life As a Teenage Robot, and even more recent hits like Breadwinners and Game Shakers. But it turns out, there were more removals on the way. As spotted by @ToonHive on X, even more Nickelodeon shows have been removed from Paramount+ as of December 23rd. The latest batch of shows includes some animated favorites such as Sanjay and Craig, more younger audience content such as Ni Hao Kai-lan, and even live-action shows like Big Time Rush. It’s such a notable removal after the last batch that something really seems to be changing within Nickelodeon’s place within Paramount overall.

The latest batch of Nickelodeon removals from Paramount+ include the likes of: While this list might not immediately alert Nickelodeon fans as to Paramount+’s changing streaming library, it follows the last long list of removals from just a few days ago that included the following: It’s a bit alarming to lose so many shows, and coupled with the fact that even more Nickelodeon shows will be leaving Hulu soon. Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, The Thundermans, and Drake & Josh are set to leave Hulu on January 1st, 2025. So while these shows might not immediately jump out as “big” losses in the grand scheme of their time with Nickelodeon itself, it really is indicative of a much larger, more worrying trend. Weeks after Max removed a bunch of beloved animated TV shows from its streaming service, Paramount+ is following up with a massive purge of its own.

As spotted by the blog NickALive!, Paramount+ removed 22 Nickelodeon shows from its library in recent days, including animated classics like Doug and My Life as a Teenage Robot. The removal of classic Nickelodeon shows started on December 19, when Paramount+ kicked the following 12 shows off of its streaming service: In addition to these shows, Paramount+ also dumped The Massively Mixed-Up Middle School Mystery, a live-action special from 2015 featuring Jenna Ortega. If you were a cartoon-watching kid in the '90s, the loss of Doug might sting a bit. Nickelodeon's animated sitcom about a shy boy who wants to fit in at his new school was one of the first three Nicktoons alongside Rugrats and The Ren & Stimpy Show. My Life as a Teenage Robot was another popular Nicktoon that premiered 12 years after Doug, following the adventures of robot superhero XJ-9 (aka Jenny) as she tries to live life as a normal...

Cord cutters relying on Paramount+ for their Nickelodeon fix are facing disappointment as the streaming service has quietly removed a significant number of popular shows, including beloved classics and more recent titles. This content purge leaves fans scrambling to find alternative sources for their favorite cartoons, raising questions about the future of classic content preservation in the streaming era. As reported by ComicBook.com, several key Nickelodeon series have been pulled from Paramount+, leaving a noticeable void in the platform’s library. Among the most prominent removals are “Doug,” one of Nickelodeon’s pioneering Nicktoons, and the cult favorite “My Life as a Teenage Robot.” “Doug,” which originally aired from 1991 to 1994, holds a special place in the hearts of many 90s kids. The animated series followed the everyday life of Doug Funnie, a relatable and endearing character navigating the trials and tribulations of adolescence.

Its removal from Paramount+ severs a direct link to a significant piece of Nickelodeon’s history. “My Life as a Teenage Robot,” another fondly remembered series, has also disappeared from the platform. This show, which aired in the early 2000s, blended action, comedy, and science fiction, telling the story of Jenny Wakeman, a teenage robot tasked with protecting Earth. The removals extend beyond classic Nicktoons. By the end of 2024, shows based on popular movie franchises like “Kung Fu Panda” and “Madagascar” will also be taken down from Paramount+. While the “Kung Fu Panda” movies remain available on various platforms, and the original “Madagascar” film can be streamed on Hulu, the associated TV series will become significantly harder to access.
