a slew of vintage nickelodeon shows are now on paramount plus

Paramount+ doesn’t have The Mandalorian or WandaVision or Game of Thrones. But if you’re a kid who grew up in the ’80s or early ’90s, it does have your childhood. The new streaming service (or rather the new name for an old streaming service, CBS All Access), has been beefing up its offerings from across the Viacom corporate library. This week, they added a big range of sitcoms, cartoons, and game shows from the glory days of Nickelodeon. The lineup is far from complete (Where’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete?) and even the shows they added don’t have their full runs right now. Double Dare, for example, only includes offers the show’s first season, which means no Family Double Dare or Super Sloppy Double Dare.

Still, there are many hours of nostalgia to be found, including some shows that have been very hard to find and watch in recent years, like the classic kids sketch show You Can’t Do... The roster of vintage Nickelodeon shows on Paramount+ now includes: Again, there are a lot more shows that are missing here. (Get the Picture! Finders Keepers! Wild & Crazy Kids!

What Would You Do! I watched a lot of Nickelodeon as a kid, sorry.) But for a child of this era, this is like discovering a Fountain of Youth spewing a geyser of green slime. On New Years Day, Paramount+ removed 11 kids TV shows, including a few Nickelodeon classics. These latest removals join As Told By Ginger, which was removed on December 17th. Movies and specials removed today (or recently):

While the movie removals are due to licensing rights, as most of the Nickelodeon Movies have rotated on and off multiple times before, it’s still worth noting. Also, this does mark the end of Ryan’s Mystery Playdate on the service, as the main TV show has been gone for some time now. It just got harder to watch some of Nickelodeon’s older shows, and it’s going to be even harder soon as even more will be leaving streaming services by 2025. Paramount+ seems to be making some major changes to its library as fans of Nickelodeon had already noticed earlier this month that some of their biggest classic had been removed from the streaming service. This included some of their earliest original animated projects like Doug and My Life As a Teenage Robot, and even more recent hits like Breadwinners and Game Shakers. But it turns out, there were more removals on the way.

As spotted by @ToonHive on X, even more Nickelodeon shows have been removed from Paramount+ as of December 23rd. The latest batch of shows includes some animated favorites such as Sanjay and Craig, more younger audience content such as Ni Hao Kai-lan, and even live-action shows like Big Time Rush. It’s such a notable removal after the last batch that something really seems to be changing within Nickelodeon’s place within Paramount overall. The latest batch of Nickelodeon removals from Paramount+ include the likes of: While this list might not immediately alert Nickelodeon fans as to Paramount+’s changing streaming library, it follows the last long list of removals from just a few days ago that included the following: It’s a bit alarming to lose so many shows, and coupled with the fact that even more Nickelodeon shows will be leaving Hulu soon.

Hey Arnold!, Rugrats, The Thundermans, and Drake & Josh are set to leave Hulu on January 1st, 2025. So while these shows might not immediately jump out as “big” losses in the grand scheme of their time with Nickelodeon itself, it really is indicative of a much larger, more worrying trend. Over the past several months, Paramount Plus has added over 100 Nickelodeon shows, new and old, to its ever-expanding, rich library of content. The service also features a number of original Nickelodeon movies, such as Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie. Last year, I penned a piece pleading Nickelodeon to add some of its classic shows to a streaming service.

Apparently, Nick listened, and responded rather quickly. After 15 years separate from each other, CBS and Viacom merged together for a second time in December of 2019. As a result of the two media juggernauts teaming up, CBS began overhauling its streaming service in the ensuing months, adding BET, CMT, Comedy Central, Spike TV, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Smithsonian and Paramount properties... In March of 2021, CBS-Viacom rebranded CBS All Access as "Paramount Plus", adding a plethora of new content to the streaming service. Now, Nickelodeon has its own version of Disney+. As Americans hunker down in their houses amid the outbreak of COVID-19, there's never been a better time for them to catch up on their favorite childhood shows.

The streamer has removed three classic series from the Paramount Skydance-owned children’s network. Paramount+ is the home to dozens of Nickelodeon shows, ranging from SpongeBob SquarePants to Rugrats to All That to Drake & Josh to iCarly to Henry Danger, and many, many more. There are still a lot that aren’t available on the platform, and unfortunately, even those on the platform don’t seem to have a permanent place. According to NickALive!, three classic Nickelodeon shows are no longer streaming, and it’s unknown if and when they will ever return.

Created by Emily Kapnek, As Told by Ginger ran for three seasons from 2000 to 2006. The series has been praised for having ongoing story arcs and characters who developed, aged, and changed their clothes throughout the show, which was rare for an animated series at the time. Set in the fictional town of Sheltered Shrubs, As Told by Ginger revolves around the titular Ginger Foutley, a junior high school (and later high school) girl, and her friends as they try to... The voice cast includes Melissa Disney, Kenny Blank, Jeannie Elias, Liz Georges, Jackie Harris, Aspen Miller, Tress MacNeille, Cree Summer, Laraine Newman, Kath Soucie, Sandy Fox, Emily Kapnek, and Adam Wylie. Paramount+ has removed several classic Nickelodeon titles from its library, prompting a wave of fan objection. On Thursday (December 26), the Paramount Global streamer got rid of a number of cult favorites, including Nicktoons’ hit seven-season cartoon Doug and Nickelodeon’s four-season sitcom Big Time Rush.

Blue’s Room, a spin-off of Nickelodeon Nick Jr. channel’s popular children’s series Blue’s Clues, cartoon sci-fi My Life As A Teenage Robot, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and The Penguins of Madagascar were cut from the platform as well. As were AwesomenessTV, Breadwinners, Game Shakers, House of Anubis, Let’s Just Play: Go Healthy Challenge, Welcome to the Wayne, Wonder Pets and Zoofari. ALVINNN!!!and the Chipmunks, Face’s Music Party, Fanboy & Chum Chum, Ni Hao, Kai-Lin, Oobi, Sanjay & Craig, The Upside Down Show, and Tot Cop, were also among the vanishing titles. Paramount+ is removing Nickelodeon titles from its library, including some big properties like Doug, Blue’s Room, and Big Time Rush. December has seen Doug being taken off the streamer.

The animated series premiered in 1991 on Nickelodeon and ran for four seasons. Doug was one of the earliest titles of the “Nicktoons” in the 1990s, which would later include shows like Rugrats, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocko’s Modern Life, Aaahh!! Real Monsters, Hey Arnold! and more. Other titles purged from Paramount+ include My Life As A Teenage Robot and shows based on DreamWorks Animation films like Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and The Penguins of Madagascar. AwesomenessTV, Breadwinners, Game Shakers, House of Anubis, Let’s Just Play: Go Healthy Challenge, Welcome to the Wayne, Wonder Pets, and Zoofari were also removed from Paramount+.

More recently, Paramount+ users have reported other titles being taken off the streamer like ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks, Blue’s Room, Big Time Rush, Face’s Music Party, Fanboy & Chum Chum, Ni Hao, Kai-Lin, Oobi, Sanjay & Craig, The Upside Down Show, and Tot Cop.
